Fall Home Trends
This week the REH team returned back from High Point, NC with way too many inspiration photos to upload.
Fall Market is full of meetings, seminars, teachings and I take advantage of going any time I can – The opportunity to connect with designers from around the country and touch and feel all the amazing products, learn about the latest technologies and innovations and experience the latest trends and new product introductions first hand is an amazing experience. I feel as though I come back with my head exploding with ideas (my poor team).
While there is literally anything and everything exhibited at High Point, there are usually overarching trends: Rounded furniture and tons of texture took center stage at this market. Colors were muted and tonal and overall moods were soft, layered and comfortable. The furniture equivalent of a cashmere PJ set (yessss).
Trending out, in my opinion, are moods that feel too fussy or glitzy. Mirrored furniture, chrome finishes and anything that feels too manufactured. Don’t get me wrong, all spaces need balances of reflectivity, metals, light and dark but overall, this market felt like getting back to basics, from furniture profiles to subtle layering of textures and muted palettes and a definite emphasis on warmth.
Upholstered furniture with contemporary rounded profiles continues to be a staple in many brands’ Fall lineup, with established vendors and up-and-comers alike embracing the trend.

Boucle and Sherpa upholstery, too, are enjoying continued resurgence. Though when pressed on the durability of these textiles for the long haul, I received mixed responses.
My suggestion would be to seek to incorporate two trends into one item. A rounded profile in a sherpa fabric placed in, say, a bedroom where it’s likely to receive gentler use than a family room is one very good option to update the look of the space without a huge investment.
Lighting and Accent pieces are excellent ways to change the look of the space and incorporate new trends with a minimal commitment.

I also personally like investing in statement lighting because (a) everyone can see it and (b) no kids can touch it!
For metals, burnished, antique brass continues to hold its own and I believe we are looking at it as a real contender for the long haul and - dare I say - taking the place of chrome as a standard finish.
Adding brass into your space with lighting or even simply changing out your kitchen cabinet hardware is an easy way to incorporate this trend.
